Cold plunge chillers compared
The chiller decides how cold your plunge gets, how fast it recovers after you get out, and what outlet you need. Here are 18 chiller systems side by side, priced from $899 to $15,690.

Gallons per HP divides the tub's listed capacity by chiller horsepower. Lower means more cooling power for the water you're holding. It's a rough comparison, since insulation, room temperature and fill level all change real performance.
How cold each system gets
Brands rate their chillers at a handful of common floors:
- 28°F: Sun Home Saunas Cold Plunge Pro. This is the coldest rating in the index.
- 32°F: Sun Home Saunas Cold Plunge (Horizontal), Polar Monkeys ONE, Polar Monkeys Brainpod 2.0, Polar Monkeys Cyber Plunge. At this point the water can start to form ice, which several brands advertise as ice-making.
- 36°F: Plunge Chill 1HP Chiller + Tub (Pro), Plunge Chill 1HP Chiller + Tub (Plus).
- 37°F: Plunge The Plunge (Original), Plunge Plunge All-In (Gen 2), The Cold Life Ultimate Human Plunge, The Cold Life Ultimate Lite (Inflatable), Salus Saunas Dynamic Cold Plunge, Recoverex Cold Plunge System.
- 39°F: Desert Plunge Wide Grizzly 450, Desert Plunge Exclusive, Plunge Chill Chiller + Tub (XXL) (1/3 HP).
A rating is the coldest the brand says the system reaches, usually in mild room temperatures. A chiller in a hot garage or in direct sun works harder and may not hold its rated floor.
Check the chiller against the tub size
Horsepower only means something next to the amount of water it has to cool. Plunge Chill publishes both numbers, and some of its bundles pair a tub with more water than its own chiller rating covers:
- Its 1 HP chiller is rated for up to 110 gallons, but the 1HP Chiller + Tub (Pro) bundle comes with a 200-gallon tub.
- Its 1/3 HP chiller's cooling times are given for 66 gallons, but the XXL bundle uses a 120-gallon tub.
You don't have to fill a tub to the top, but expect slower cooling if you do. When a brand doesn't publish what its chiller is rated to cool, ask before you buy.
Electrical needs
Every chiller in the index that publishes its power runs on 120V. Several brands, including Plunge, Sun Home, Salus, Aquavoss and Polar Monkeys, say the chiller needs a dedicated 15A circuit, which means no other appliances on that breaker. Lower-power chillers like Desert Plunge's 1/4 HP draw 6.5A from a standard outlet. Plunge Chill doesn't publish its chillers' voltage or amperage. Read more in our electrical requirements guide.
What the brands don't publish
5 of the 18 systems don't list chiller horsepower: Plunge The Plunge (Original), The Cold Life Ultimate Human Plunge, The Cold Life Ultimate Lite (Inflatable), Polar Monkeys Brainpod 2.0, Polar Monkeys Cyber Plunge. Missing specs are marked "Not published" throughout the index. We don't fill them in with estimates.
